2019 - 2020

3rd class have enjoyed being back together this year and have had a busy first term at school. Many thanks to Mrs Finlay for her wonderful work with the children. We have thoroughly enjoyed having you with us since September. We also look forward to welcoming our new 3rd class teacher ‘Mrs Carleton’ to the Model. We can be sure the children in 3rd class will make you feel very welcome!

Fourth Class all painted a Christmas jar. They designed their own jar and painted it using glass paints. The children really enjoyed doing this.

After the jars had dried, the children took part in some flower arranging. They chose flowers and added them to their jars.

The finished products were beautiful!

In English, we have been reading about 'The Titanic'. We learned a lot about the ship and how it was built. We even learned about a passenger called Francis Brown, who had photographed the ship and had got off the ship in Cobh in Co Cork, before disaster struck.

We continued to develop our writing skills in English as we wrote a Recount piece about the Titanic. The children's creativity was amazing. Some children pretended to be first class passengers, while others were third class passengers. All the writing pieces were fabulous!

Finally, the children all created a picture of 'The Titanic'. Have a look at the amazing work completed by the children.

All the children in 4th class were busy at the beginning of December. They worked hard to complete a range of arts and crafts to donate to Blackwater House.

We all really enjoyed creating the arts and crafts and we were delighted with out finished products.

We took full advantage of the good weather in September and put our skills to good use in the Outdoor Play Area.

Over the past few weeks, we have been working on the genre of 'storytelling and anecdotes'.

The children worked in small groups within their pods. Each group was given a story starter. The children had to create a story based on the first line. I was so amazed at all the creativity and imagination in each of the stories. We even had stories connecting to 'An Górta Mór'.

A huge well done to everyone so far!

For Maths Week, Fourth Class completed a Maths Trail, a Kahoot Quiz and integrated Maths into a P.E. lesson too.

We went around the school grounds and observed maths in the school enviornment. It was a lot of fun!

We completed a Kahoot Quiz in our pod groups. It really tested our mental maths. Mrs Marshall was very impressed with the knowledge and skills among the children.

Lastly, we integrated Maths into our P.E. lesson. We played a game called 'Up to 50'. The children had a lot of fun completing exercises until they had 50 different types of movements completed.

Have a look at some of the fabulous creations! A huge well done to everyone who sent me their picture!

Mrs Marshall :)

Please note that the worksheets have been sent by email to parents so you can view and copy these into your copy from there.

6th Class - Remember that when we multiply a number with a decimal by a number with a decimal we  ignore the decimals points to begin with until the calculations are all finished.  The we count the digits after the decimal point and count this far in from the right.  eg 2.45 x 3.6 will have 3 digits after the decimal point at the end.

Hello Junior Infants,

Thank You so much to all of you who have sent me lovely emails so far.

Hi everyone,

Here are the Log In details for our class Folens account.

Good Morning everyone!

I have added a tile on Symbaloo for the children to access free ebooks from the Oxford Owl website.

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all keeping busy and you and your families are well. There has been some lovely sunshine and I hope you have enjoyed some playtime outdoors. I have seen pictures of some of the things you have been doing to keep busy. Some very creative ideas. Keep it up!

You can send me some pictures using the class email address you should receive very soon. I would love to see what you have been up to. Remember keep active and have fun. Ride your bike, help in the garden, spot some of those spring flowers we were learning about and get the wellies on and explore.

Below is a plan of work to keep you busy and learning for the next week.  Remember I fully understand that every ones family situation is different, so therefore do what you can. There is no need to stress or feel under pressure. If every child reads a little, writes a little every day and does  some number work or maths topic work to keep up their skills that would be great.

The children enjoyed the unit of work on The Estate Agents. They sold and bought houses in our 'Model Estate Agents'. They built houses using lolly sticks, matches, play dough, etc. They created houses using the giant polydrons. We have some very skilled builders. The constructions workers currently building our new classroom have some stiff competition.

Literacy Stations allow children to practice several literacy skills in small groups. With the arrival of our new Ipads we had a new and exciting station.

The children used the ipads to find rhyming pairs.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well, keeping safe and enjoying some lovely family time at home. The sun is out so be sure to enjoy it! Get on your bicycle, kick a football and run around the garden to gets lots of exercise. Keep an eye out for any little birds visiting your garden, try to catch your shadow or paint some letter and numbers on your yard using paintbrushes and a pot of water! Have fun and enjoy this time at home.

Junior Infants - our grow box is full of mushrooms! Just a pity we are not in school to enjoy a mushroom snack together.

Keep safe everyone!

To keep the little folk in your home busy and to facilitate parents as they guide their children through this period of learning at home I have put together a plan of work to support you. We have completed quite a chunk of the senior infant curriculum to date and this allows for lots of opportunities to revise some of the topics and subjects already taught. Please ensure that the correct number and letter formation is used, as bad habits develop very easily and can be difficult to break.

Please find below a Plan of Work to keep little hands and minds busy during this period of school closure. Repetition and revision is a vital part of learning for younger children so these activities will give them an opportunity to consolidate their learning. All listed activities are based on previously taught topics so the children should be able to work confidently with a little bit of guidance and direction from an adult. As regards number and letter formation, please ensure the children are following the correct formation rules as practised bad habits are very hard to break.

As part of Seachtain an Gaeilge, 3rd and 4th class teamed up with Mrs Stewart’s Senior Infants.

Here are a few pictures of third and fourth class working with senior infants. Some children were reading Irish books, some playing a matching game, playing Deir Ó Grádaigh, playing in the siopa, cé hé mise? etc...

It was a great way to get using our Gaeilge!!!

Check out the art work and report writing on the topic of animals! What impressive work!!

During the school closure, the Department of Education has outlined that learning will still continue at home. I am aware that in the current situation it is difficult and the children will struggle to learn new topics. Therefore, the work which has been set is self-explanatory and covers a lot of revision. I encourage the children to try their best with all of the activities below.
